Blue Rocks lead by two runs after one inning of play
The real action would not get going until the bottom of the first inning when Wilmington would make some noise with three hits and a walk.
Darren Baker would get the action on the bases started for the Rocks, as he hit a line drive single down the left-field. Two batters later, Israel Pineda would reach base on a two-out walk.
Omar Meregildo would be the next batter up, as he singled on a soft fly ball to right field, which allowed Baker to score to give the Blue Rocks a 1-0 lead.
Kevin Strohschein would step up to the plate next, as he hit a two-out ground ball single to left field, which would allow Pineda to score to extend their team’s lead to 2-0.
Wilmington wins 3-0!
After throwing for 5.2 scoreless innings, Rocks Mitchell Parker’s day was done, as he gave up two hits, nine strikeouts, and earned the win.
Gilberto Chu came into the game to relieve Parker, and he would get the last out in the top sixth inning by striking out a Crawdad batter.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Wilmington would add another run to their lead.
The action on bases in the sixth started when Omar Meregildo would reach third base due to a fielding error by Hickory’s left fielder.
Kevin Strohschein would be the next batter, as he flew out to the right field, which allowed Meregildo to score to give the Rocks a 3-0 lead. The Blue Rocks were helped out on the play with the Crawdad’s right fielder making a throwing error as Meregildo went home.
In the top of the eighth inning, Tyler Yankosky would replace Chu, as he would cruise the last two innings with him giving up no runs, and closing out the 3-0 win.
