Wilmington Blue Rocks’ 4-run eighth inning earns the team a 5-3 win over the Cyclones

The Wilmington Blue Rocks earned their sixth win of the season on Wednesday with a 5-3 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Game Leaders:

RBIs: Jordy Barley, Wilmer Perez, T.J. White, and Jacob Young would lead the team in RBIs, with one in the win.

Runs: T.J. White, Viandel Pena, Trey Lipscomb, Jared McKenzie, and Jeremy De La Rosa also led the team in runs, with one in the game.

Hits: Young, James Wood, Lipscomb, McKenzie, De La Rosa, and White would lead the team in hits, with one in the win.

Stolen Bases: De La Rosa led the team with two stolen bases in the game.

Game Recap:

Wilmington would get on the board first in this game as second baseman Viandel Pena would score from second thanks to Brooklyn’s left fielder fielding error, which gave the team a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Three innings later, the Cyclones would push in a run to tie the game at one.

Brooklyn would add another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Warren Saunders scored on a wild pitch from the Rocks pitcher to give his team a 2-1 lead.

The Cyclones continued to add to their advantage in the seventh inning when the team pushed in another run to take a 3-1 edge.

After five scoreless innings, the Blue Rocks lineup would wake up in the eighth inning to score four runs on two hits to take a 5-3 lead.

The first run of the inning came when first baseman T.J. White hit an RBI line-drive single to center field to cut the score to 3-2.

Catcher Wilmer Perez would be the next batter up with the bases loaded, as he would be issued a walk which would push in a run to tie the game at three.

Different player, same result. Shortstop Jordy Barley would also get walked with bases loaded to give the Rocks a 4-3 lead.

The last run of the inning came when left-fielder Jacob Young hit an RBI sacrifice fly to give Wilmington a 5-3 edge.

The Blue Rocks hitters were patient at the plate in the eighth inning, as they were issued four walks.

Wilmington pitching would take it the rest of the way to seal a 5-3 victory over Brooklyn.

Andrew Alvarez would go 4.2 innings, giving up two hits, two runs, one earned run, three walks, and striking out nine batters.

Jaren Zinn would get the win after coming in the seventh inning and going two innings, giving up one hit, one run, one walk, and striking out two batters.
