Wilmington Blue Rocks take a 7-3 victory over the IronBirds

The Wilmington Blue Rocks earned their eighth win of the season on Tuesday with a 7-3 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds.

Game Leaders:

RBIs: Trey Lipscomb, and T.J. White, would lead the team in RBIs, with two in the win.

Runs: T.J. White and James Wood also led the team in runs, with two in the game.

Hits: Jacob Young would lead the team in hits, with two in the win.

Stolen Bases: Young led the team with three stolen bases in the game.

Home Runs: White hit a home run in the win.

Game Recap:

Wilmington would get the scoring action rolling in this one as the team pushed in three runs on two hits in the first inning.

Left-fielder Jacob Young would get the first hit of the game for the Rocks as he slapped a single to the shortstop. He would follow that up by stealing second and third base.

Two batters later, third baseman Trey Lipscomb would push in a run when he grounded out to the shortstop to give his team a 1-0 lead.

First baseman T.J. White would step up to the plate next, as he hit a two-run homer to right-center field to extend Wilmington’s edge to 3-0.

Fast forward to the top of the fourth inning, where the IronBirds would score their first run of the game to cut the score to 3-1.

The Blue Rocks would answer back in the bottom of the fourth inning by scoring three runs on three hits to take the score to 6-1.

Designated hitter Jared McKenzie would start the scoring in the fourth, as he hit an RBI line drive double to the left fielder to give his team a 4-1 edge.

Catcher Caleb Farmer would be the next batter up, as he slapped an RBI line drive single to the center fielder to extend the Rocks lead to 5-1.

Shortstop Jordy Barley would also push a run in when he grounded out to a double play to expand his team’s advantage to 6-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Wilmington would have a little more cushion to their lead as Trey Lipscomb hit an RBI double to center field to give his team a 7-1 edge.

In the top of the ninth inning, things would get a little dicey as Aberdeen scored two runs and had the bases loaded, but the Rocks bullpen would settle down and get the 7-3 victory.

Pitching recap:

Chance Huff had a solid outing by going five innings, giving up four hits, one run, one earned run, striking out five hitters, and earning the win.

After Huff exited the game, Wilmington had four pitchers from the pen come into the game, which included Marlon Perez, who went 0.2 innings, struck one batter out, and earned the save.
