Sevens Lose 121-110 to the Windy City Bulls

The Delaware 87ers got swept up by the Windy City Bulls on Saturday night, losing 121-110. The Sevens now have a 0-3 record on the road this season.

It all started with the Bulls going on a 10-0 run in the 1st quarter and they would keep the Sevens scoreless about to the 7:58 mark of the quarter.  Bulls Center Cristiano Felicio had 4 points and 3 rebounds during the 10-0 opening run.

Then the 87ers went on the own  6-0 run around 3:49 left in the first quarter to bring the deficit to single digits and the score to 25-16. Anthony “Cat” Barber had 4 points during the run.

Even with starting 0-5 from the field and turning over the ball nine times in the quarter, the Sevens were only 7 points away from the lead at the first quarter with the score 29-22.

For most of the second quarter, the Sevens were hanging around with the Bulls but never close enough to get the lead. The Bulls went on a little run at the end of the second quarter to have the lead 56-50. The 87ers in both the 1st and 2nd quarter never had the lead once.

During halftime the Sevens must got hold of Michael Jordan’s Secret Sauce from Space Jam because in third quarter they were a whole different team from the first half. About at the 1:58 mark the Sevens tied the game and then to took the lead for first time in the game thanks Brannen Greene’s two made free throw shots. The 87ers outscored the Bulls 29-25 in the 3rd quarter. The Sevens lead would not last though as the Bulls regained the lead at the end of the 3rd to make it 81-79.

In the beginning of the fourth quarter things was looking the Sevens way when they were up 86-82 which was the biggest lead of the game for the Sevens. Then the mistakes starting happen and Bulls defense started to sharpen up. The Sevens had 6 turnovers in the quarter which allowed the Bulls to start pull away and they did with a 11 point win.

Guard Dionte Christmas led the Sevens with a team-high 23 points vs the Bulls.

Sevens center Shawn Long (21 points, 11 rebounds)and forward James Webb III (11 points, 10 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles in the game.

Sevens drop to 2-3 on the season and head back home to the Bob Carpenter Center to on the Grand Rapids Drive on Tuesday at 7pm ET.
