Delaware Blue Coats open up the season with a 114-100 win over Long Island

Blue Coats lead by two points after one-quarter of play

The game started with the Nets taking an early 9-4 lead with 7:50 left in the first quarter.

Starting at the 7:32 minute mark, Delaware would outscore Long Island 22-15 to take a 26-24 lead at the end of the first quarter. The trio of Shaquille Harrison, Haywood Highsmith, and Jared Brownridge would score 15 of the 22 points on the run.

During that run, the Blue Coats were dominant on the boards as the team collected ten rebounds.

Delaware leads by 21 at the end of the first half

The second quarter started with the Blue Coats jumping out on a 23-8 run, which extended their lead to 49-32 with 5:13 left in the first half. The leader of this run was Shaquille Harrison, who scored ten of the 23 points.

During Delaware’s run, the Nets turned the ball over four times.

At the 4:29 minute mark, the Blue Coats would outscore Long Island 12-8 for the rest of the second half to take a 61- 40 lead. The three-point shot was a key factor on this run as the team hit two of them, which came from Haywood Highsmith and Braxton Key.

Blue Coats lead by 16 points after three-quarters of play

In the third quarter, Long Island would get some momentum as the team outscored Delaware 29-24. The Nets outscored the Blue Coats 11-4 in the last three minutes of the third quarter to cut the lead to 85-69.

Delaware wins 114-100!

The Blue Coats would start the fourth quarter off with a bang as the team went on a 20-10 run, which expanded their lead to 105-79 with 5:59 left in the game. Charlie Brown Jr. was the leader of this run as he scored ten of the 20 points.

Starting at the 4:18 minute mark, the Nets would go on a 21-9 run, but it would not matter as Delaware hung on to win 114-10.
