Bolden Scores 34 In Blue Coats 152-137 Win Over Nets

The Delaware Blue Coats move to 2-1 on the season with a 152-137 road win against the Long Island Nets on Friday at the Nassau Coliseum.

The leading scorer of the game for the Blue Coats was power forward  Jonah
Bolden who scored 34 points.

Two Blue Coats players had double-doubles in the win and they were shooting guard Marial Shayok and point guard Xavier Munford.

Shyok had 29 points and 13 rebounds in the game.

Munford had 16 points and 17 assists in the win.

Two other Blue Coats players scored in double digits and they were forward Haywood Highsmith (26) and shooting guard Jared Brownridge (25).

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included assists ( 28-24), steals ( 15-7) and turnovers (16-24).

The Blue Coats also bested the Nets at the three-point line as the Delaware shot 40% (17-42) and Long Island shot 33% (13-40).

Delaware Takes A Early Lead After One Quarter

The first quarter started with Blue Coats coming out quickly with a 21-4 run.   Jonah Bolden led the charge on the 21-4 run with scoring eight of the 21 points on the drive.

The Nets would have a run of their own when the team climbed back in the game with a 13-6 run around 3:13 minute mark. The run decreased Delaware’s lead to 38-30 with the first quarter coming to a close.

Nets Outscore Blue Coats By 12 In The Second Quarter To Take Halftime Lead

The second quarter started with Long Island outscoring the Blue Coats 15-10 which cut Delaware’s lead to 48-45 with 8:31 left in the half.

The Nets would go on an 11-5 run around the 7:10 minute mark which the team climbed out of the hole and into the driver’s seat, as Long Island took a 56-53 lead with 5:08 left in the half.

Delaware would fight back with outscoring the Nets 11-6 which would give the Blue Coats a 65-62 lead with 2:13 left in the half. Marial Shayok led the way on that drive as he scored five of the 11 points for the Blue Coats.

The Nets would answer back with a 16-9 run to end the half with a 78-74 lead.

Blue Coats Pour On The Points In the Third

The Nets had most of the momentum in the late minutes of the first half but the Blue Coats made sure that would not continue in the second half of this game.

Delaware came out in the second half on a 10-5 run which gave the team an 84-83 lead with 10:24 left in the third quarter.  Haywood Highsmith would lead the charge on this run which he scored six of the ten points on the drive.

The Blue Coats were feeling it as the went on another run, a couple minutes later which was a 15-7 run that increased their lead to 100-90 with 5:25 left in the third quarter. Once again, Haywood led the charge on the run by scoring six of the 15 points on the drive.

Delaware would outscore the Nets 16-14 to end the third quarter with a 116-104 lead.

Delaware Keeps the Momentum And Seals Win In Fourth

Delaware’s defense became a little lax in the fourth quarter as the Nets would able to score 33 points and the team came within 10 points of the lead at 6:18 mark.

Even with all that, the Blue Coats would outscore Long Island 14-12 in the last five minutes of the game to end with a 152-137 win.

Delaware will take on the Canton Charge on November 16th at 7:00pm ET at the 76ers Fieldhouse.
