Pelle Scores 23 In Blue Coats 120-112 Win Over Skyhawks

The Delaware Blue Coats defeated the College Park Skyhawks 120-112 on Thursday at the Gateway Center Arena.

The leading scorer of the game for the Blue Coats was center Norvel Pelle who scored 23 points.

Two Blue Coats players had double-doubles in the win and they were point guard Xavier Munford and power forward Jonah Bolden.

Munford had 20 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Bolden had 18 points and 11 rebounds in the game.

Two other Blue Coats players scored in double digits and they were forward Haywood Highsmith (15) and shooting guard Jared Brownridge (22).

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included rebounds (55-41), assists (27-26) and blocked shots (5-3).

Delaware also had the advantage over College Park in shooting percentage as the team had 53% ( 46-87) and the Skyhawks had 38% ( 39-103). The Blue Coats also bested the Skyhawks at the three-point line with the team shooting 34% (15-44) and College Park shot 27% (13-48).

Delaware Takes A Early Lead After One Quarter

The first quarter started with the two teams battling with the lead going back and forth between the two teams.

It was not until the 6:07 minute mark, where Delaware took control of the game which the team went on a 21-5 run to take a 28-15 lead with 1:10 left in the quarter.

Jared Brownridge led the charge on the run for the Blue Coats as he scored 12 of the 21 points in the drive.

The Skyhawks would outscore the Blue Coats 5-0 in the final seconds of the quarter to decrease Delaware’s lead to 28-20.

Blue Coats Outscore College Park To End With Halftime Lead

The second quarter started with the Blue Coats outscoring College Park 14-9 which gave them a 42-39 lead with 8:38 left in the half.

Center Doral Moore led the charge on that run for Delaware with scoring four of the 14 points on the run.

Around the 3:32 minute mark, The Blue Coats pushed their lead deeper as the team went on an 11-4 run which gave Delaware a 65-48 lead to end the half.

Delaware Maintains Lead But Skyhawks Start To Come Back

The Blue Coats started off the third quarter with feeling the three-point shot as three of their first five shots in the quarter came from downtown which the team hit them all, as those shots helped extend Delaware’s lead to 78-55 with 9:12 left in third.

At the 6:23 minute mark, the Skyhawks found some life as they went on a 19-6 run which decreased Delaware lead to 93-76 with 1:50 remaining in third quarter.

Blue Coats would end the third quarter with a 96-78 lead.

College Park Comeback Fails As Blue Coats Hang On To Win

College Park ended the third quarter with momentum and the team took that into the beginning of the fourth where they went on a 17-7 run. The run helped reduce Blue Coats lead to 102-95 with seven minutes left in the game.

Delaware would answer back a minute later with a 10-2 run of their own which pushed the lead to 112-97 with 3:34 left in the game.

Jonah Bolden and Haywood Highsmith delivered on the run for the Blue Coats as each player scored five points on the 10 point run.

The Skyhawks would outscore the Blue Coats 15-8 for the rest of the quarter but Delaware would hang on to win 120-112.

The Blue Coats travel back home to the 76ers Field House to take on the Wisconsin Herd on November 23rd at 7PM ET.
