Blue Coats down by one point after one-quarter of play
These two teams were ready to do battle as soon as this game started as the lead changed hands six times, and the score was tied five times in the first eight minutes of the opening quarter. The last lead change during those eight minutes came from Delaware’s Ivan Rabb, who made a layup, which gave his team a 14-12 lead with 4:57 left in the first quarter.
In the next minute, the Blue Coats would go on a mini 4-2 run, which would expand their lead to 17-14 with 3:26 left in the opening quarter.
Starting at the 2:07 minute mark, Fort Wayne would outscore Delaware 9-5 to end the first quarter with a 23-22 lead.
During the Mad Ants run, the Blue Coats hit a little cold spell with the team missing four shots, of which three of them were three-point shots.
Delaware up by five points at the end of the first half
The Blue Coats started the second quarter by jumping out on a 13-0 run, which gave the team a 35-23 lead with 8:23 left in the first half. The duo of Jemerrio Jones and Rayjon Tucker would score 10 of the 13 points on the run.
As the next five minutes passed in the second quarter, Fort Wayne would come roaring back by outscoring Delaware 17-11, which cut the lead to six points (46-40) with three minutes left in the first half.
The Mad Ants would continue to have the momentum in the final three minutes of the first half as the team outscored the Blue Coats 8-7, which cut the lead to five points (53-48).
Blue Coats lead by seven after three-quarters of play
In the first six minutes of the second half, Delaware would outscore Fort Wayne 18-13 to expand their lead to 71-61 with 6:28 left in the third quarter. The duo of Julian Washburn and Justin Robinson would score 13 of the 18 points on the run.
Starting at the 5:50 minute mark, the Mad Ants would march right back into this game as the team went on a 17-7 run to tie the game at 78 with 2:36 left in the third quarter.
Seconds later, the Blue Coats would answer right back with a 15-8 run of their own, which gave them a 93-86 lead at the end of the third quarter. The duo of Rayjon Tucker and Justin Robinson would score 10 of the 15 points on the run.
Delaware wins by five
The first six minutes of the final quarter of the season opener for the Blue Coats saw the team outscoring Fort Wayne 16-11, which pushed their lead to 109-97 lead with 6:16 left in the game. The duo of Jemerrio Jones and Jared Brownridge would score nine of the 16 points on the run.
A few seconds later, the Mad Ants would score six straight points to cut the lead to six (109-103) with 5:04 left in the game.
Fort Wayne was not waving that white flag just yet, as the team went on another run, which this time was a 10-5 run. The 10-5 run cut the lead to one point (114-113) with 1:59 left in the game.
As the time was running down in the game, Delaware would outscore the Mad Ants 10-6 to seal a 124-119 win. Eight of the Blue Coats’ ten points came from the free-throw line.
