Errors & Struggling Offense lead Blue Rocks to get swept by Potomac

With the 6-2 loss on Sunday, Blue Rocks have lost a total of 17 games to the Potomac Nationals on the season.

The Blue Rocks had an early lead in this game thanks to DH Brandon Downes reaching base on a fielding error by 3B Austin Davidson and then catcher Chad Johnson sending Downes home on a two out RBI that put the Rocks on top 1-0 in the first inning . Then in the second inning, left fielder Anderson Miller hit a two out double then first baseman Samir Duenez sent Miller home on a RBI single.

Then the trouble started, Blue rocks had two errors in the fourth inning that tied the game at 2-2.

From that point on the Potomac pitching found their groove and the Rocks bats went silent.

Potomac’s starting pitcher Austen Willams allowed 2 runs, one earned run,7 hits, and struck out 4 in eight innings. This is the longest outing for a Potomac starting pitcher all season.

Blue Rocks starting pitcher Andy Ferguson allowed 5 runs, 4 earned runs, 4 hits, walked 2 batters, and struck out 5 in 5.2 innings.

Blue Rocks were 2 for 6 with runners in scoring position on Sunday. Also, Rocks left 8 men of base in the game.
