Tuesday night was a great night for the Blue Rocks because it was the first time since July 31st they won back to back games and they did all in one day.
On this Tuesday night, Blue Rocks had a double header vs their division rivals the Fredrick Keys at home in Frawley Stadium.
The first game was a very tight one until the 7th inning when outfielder Brandon Downes hit a 2-run homer to break the game open to a 7-3 lead for the Blue Rocks.
Downes now has 10 home runs and now 55 RBIs on the year.
Also, Samir Duenez scored 2 RBIs in the game and has 33 RBIs on the year. Elier Hernandez also had RBI in the game and he brought total 37 RBIs including Game 2.
Blue Rocks were 4 for 11 with runners in scoring position and left 6 men on base Tuesday night.
Starting pitcher Glenn Sparkman started out shaky giving up 3 runs in the second inning but after that he quieted the Keys bats the rest of the evening.
Sparkman went 6 innings, 4 hits, 3 earned runs, 4 strikeouts and gave up one home run.
The Rocks would hold to that 7-3 lead and win the first game of the night.
There was no time for the Rocks to bask in their 7-3 win because they had another game on the night.
This was a makeup game from July 30th that was cancelled due to rain.
For the 2nd game Blue Rocks pitching was star of show for them.
It was a combined effort for the Rocks pitching staff but they were able to shut down to Keys bats in a 3-2 win.
Rocks starting pitcher Derek Gordon pitched 3 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1 walk and 2 strike outs.
Then Jake Newberry came in relief of Gordon and pitched 2.1 innings, gave up for hits, 2 earned runs, 2 strikeouts and got the win for the Rocks.
On the offensive side the Blue Rocks had just enough juice in their bats to keep Fredrick away.
Luis Villegas, Brian Bien, Elier Hernandez all scored one RBI in the second game.
Villegas has 19 , Bien 10, and Hernandez has 37 RBIs on the year.
Blue Rocks were 3 for 8 with runners in scoring position and left 7 men on base in the game.
Rocks look to make three straight wins tomorrow vs the Keys.
