The Delaware Blue Coats are now on a four-game winning streak as the team defeated the Capital City Go-Go’s 110-109 on Friday at the 76ers Fieldhouse.
The leading scorer of the game for the Blue Coats was guard/forward Marial Shayok who had 31 points.
Two Blue Coats had double-doubles in the win which they were center Christ Koumadje and power forward Jonah Bolden.
Koumadje had 20 points and 12 rebounds in the game.
Bolden had 14 points and 13 rebounds in the win.
Two other Delaware players scored in double-digits which they were center Norvel Pelle (12) and guard Jared Brownridge (16).
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included rebounds (59-37), assists (21-14) and blocked shots (6-3).
Capital City was able to make a comeback because the Blue Coats turned it over 29 times in the game.
Delaware also had the advantage over the Go-Go’s in shooting percentage as the team had 49% ( 43-88) and Capital City had 41% ( 36-87). The Blue Coats also bested the Go-Go’s at the three-point line with the team shooting 40%(10-25) and Capital City shot 35% (11-31).
Delaware Holds A Five-Point Lead After One Quarter
In the first few minutes of this quarter would show what we would see for the majority of this game, a true battle for the lead as it was back and forth constantly.
The Blue Coats would get a little cushion of a lead when the team went on a 9-3 run to take an 18-13 lead with 5:47 left in the quarter.Marial Shayok would be the leading man on the run as he scored five of the nine points.
Delaware would outscore the Go-Go’s 10-8 for the rest of the quarter to take a 30-25 lead into the second quarter.
Blue Coats Maintain A Five-Point Lead At The Half
The Blue Coats opened up the second quarter going on a 6-2 run which Marial Shayok led the charge on, as he had four of the six points. The 6-2 run gave Delaware a 36-27 lead with 10:30 left in the half.
At the 6:41 minute mark, Capital City came charging back as the team went on 12-0 run which pulled the Blue Coats lead to only two with the score being 47-45 with 4:01 left in the half.
Delaware outscored the Go-Go’s 14-11 for the rest of the quarter to take a 61-56 lead into the half.
Blue Coats Widen Their Lead To 14 In Third Quarter
The Go-Go’s opened up the third quarter with a renewed fire in the offense as the team went on a 10-2 run which gave Capital City a 66-63 lead with 9:18 left in the quarter.
A few seconds later, the Blue Coats started on a 10-0 run which gave the team a 73-66 lead with 7:30 remaining in the quarter. In the 10-0 run, Delaware hit back to back three-point shots which came from Jonah Bolden and Marial Shayok.
The Blue Coats would outscore the Go-Go’s 18-11 for the rest of the quarter to take a commanding 91-77 lead into the fourth.
Delaware Escapes with a One Point Win
The turnovers started to add up in the fourth quarter for the Blue Coats and the gave Capital City a great opportunity to come back in this game and the team did just that.
The Go-Go’s opened the quarter with a 12-2 run which tighten Delaware’s lead to 93-89 with 8:12 left in the game. In that time period, the Blue Coats turned the ball over five times which Capital City took full advantage of.
At the 7:34 minute mark, Capital City went on another run which this time it was a 16-4 run to give the Go-Go’s a 100-96 lead with 4:40 left in the game. The Blue Coats had two turnovers in this time period.
Starting at the 4:29 minute mark, Delaware would outscore the Go-Go’s 12-7 to regain the lead which was 108-107 with 21.3 seconds left in the game.Marial Shayok scored 10 of the 12 points on that run for the Blue Coats.
Capital Cities hit a bucket with 18 seconds left to give their team a 109-108 lead.
Jonah Bolden would come up for the late-game heroics as had a putback dunk with five seconds left which would seal a 110-109 win for Delaware.
The Blue Coats head to Maine to take on the Maine Red Claws on December 7th at 7 PM ET.
