Rocks Pitching & Offense Sizzle In 7-0 Win Vs Keys

On the first day of the summer, the Wilmington Blue Rocks came out  sizzling with a complete effort from their pitching and offense with a 7-0 win against the Frederick Keys on Friday at Frawley Stadium.

The RBIs in the game came from left fielder Rudy Martin (3), third baseman Dennicher Carrasco (2), second baseman Colby Schultz (1) and first baseman Nick Pratto (1).

Five Blue Rocks players had runs in the win and they were right fielder Blake Perkins (1), DH Brewer Hicklen (2), catcher MJ Melendez (1),Pratto (2) and Schultz (1).

Six Wilmington hitters gained a hit in the win and they were Perkins (1), Hicklen (2), Carrasco (2), Pratto (1), shortstop Cristian Perez (1) and Martin (1).

The Rocks were three for eight with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.

On the pitching side, Rocks starter Marcelo Martinez was flat out unhittable in this game, as he went six innings, one hit, three walks, six strikeouts and earned the win ( fifth win of the season).

Austin Lambright would come into the game to relieve Martinez, as he went one inning and one strikeout.

Robert Garcia continued the dominance of the pitching staff as he went one inning and one strikeout.

Josh Mitchell would close out the game for the pitching staff as he went one inning, one hit,one walk and two strikeouts.

Rocks Take A Early 2-0 In the First Inning

The Wilmington Blue Rocks did not waste any time to get runs on the board in this game, as the team scored two in the bottom of the first inning.

The two runs in the inning came from Dennicher Carrasco who would hit a double to left field which would score Blake Perkins and Brewer Hicklen. Carrasco’s RBIs gave Rocks a early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Wilmington Adds Four Runs In Fourth Inning

The Blue Rocks would continue to add to their lead in the fourth inning when the team scored four more runs.

The first run in the inning came from Nick Pratto who hit a line drive single to right field which scored Brewer Hicklen to extend the Rocks lead to 3-0.

The next three runs of the inning came from Rudy Martin who hit a two-out double to center field which scored MJ Melendez, Nick Pratto and  Colby Schultz to give the Rocks a 6-0 lead.

Rocks Add One More Run In Sixth Inning & Pitching Seals The Win

The Blue Rocks already had a commanding 6-0 lead but the team was not done adding to it yet. The Rocks scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give them a sizable 7-0 lead.

The one run in the sixth inning came from Colby Schultz who hit into a sacrifice fly which score Nick Pratto to expand the Rocks lead to 7-0.

In the top of the seventh inning, Rocks starter Marcelo Martinez would exit the game but he had a masterful performance. Martinez went six innings, one hit, three walks, six strikeouts and earned the win.

Austin Lambright would come into the game to relieve Martinez, as he went one inning and one strikeout.

Robert Garcia would be the next man up for the Rocks in the eighth inning, as he went one inning and one strikeout.

In the ninth inning, it was all up to Rocks pitcher Josh Mitchell to close this game up which he did just that as he saw five batters, struck out two and had one pop out to seal the 7-0 win.

Rocks look to make it three in a row against the Keys on Saturday at Frawley Stadium with first pitch at 6:05 pm ET.
