Jonathan Bowlan Dominates Key Hitters In Rocks Debut

The Wilmington Blue Rocks closed out the series with the Frederick Keys with a 5-0 win on Sunday at Frawley Stadium.

The RBIs in the game came from catcher MJ Melendez (2), DH Dennicher Carrasco (1) and left fielder Brewer Hicklen (1).

Four Blue Rocks players had runs in the win and they were center fielder Blake Perkins (1), third baseman Colby Schultz (1),Hicklen (2) and Melendez (1).

Four Wilmington hitters gained a hit in the win and they were Hicklen (2), Melendez (1), first baseman Nick Pratto (2) and second baseman Kyle Kasser (1).

The Wilmington Blue Rocks were two for 11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

Brewer Hicklen was a sneaky player in this game as he recorded three stolen bases in the win.

On the pitching side, Rocks starter Jonathan Bowlan made quite the debut as he showed his brilliance with six innings pitched, five hits,one walk, nine strikeouts and earned the win ( first win of the season).

Josh Dye would come into the game to relieve Bowlan as he went two innings,one hit,one walk and one strikeout.

Tad Ratliff would be the last man up for the pitching rotation as he went one inning,one walk and one strikeout.

Rocks Score Four Runs In Third Inning To Take Lead

It took some time before the runs started to hit the scoreboard in this game but in third inning the silence of scoreboard ended. The Rocks would be the team to end the scoreless game as they scored four runs in the third inning.

The first run of the third inning came from Brewer Hicklen who hit a ground ball single to right field which scored Blake Perkins to give the Rocks a 1-0 lead.

The next run would come from Dennicher Carrasco as he hit into a sacrifice fly which allowed Colby Schultz to score to extend the Rocks lead to 2-0.

The next batter in the inning would be MJ Melendez  who would hit two-run home run to expand the Rocks lead to 4-0 in the bottom of third inning.

Rocks Add One More Run In Fourth Inning & Pitching Takes It Home

The Rocks were not done building on their lead just yet, as the team added one more run in the fourth inning.

The run came from Dennicher Carrasco as he earned a walk from the Keys pitcher’s wild pitch which allowed Brewer Hicklen to score to give the Rocks a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Rocks starting pitcher Jonathan Bowlan would leave in the top of the seventh inning but he had dominating debut start. Bowlan went six innings, five hits,one walk, nine strikeouts and earned the win. Nine strikeouts in the game was a career high for Bowlan.

Josh Dye would take over for Bowlan as he continued the dominance as he went two innings,one hit,one walk and one strikeout.

Tad Ratliff would come in the ninth inning looking to close up this win for the Rocks which he did just that as he saw four batters and had a strikeout, ground out and line out to seal the 5-0 win.

The Blue Rocks go on the road to face the Potomac Nationals on June 24th at 7:05 PM ET.
