Rocks Offense Shows Life In 6-1 Win Vs Keys

After nine straight games where the Wilmington Blue Rocks have scored three runs or less in each game, the team’s offense woke up in the series finale of the Frederick Keys by winning with a score of 6-1 on Thursday night at Frawley Stadium.

Three Wins In A Row For The Rocks 

The RBIs in the game came from first baseman Nick Pratto (1), right fielder Seuly Matias (1), DH Dennicher Carrasco (2), left fielder Brewer Hicklen (1) and and shortstop Cristian Perez (1).

Five Blue Rocks player had runs in the win and they were catcher MJ Melendez (1), Pratto (1), Matias (1), Carrasco (2) and Hicklen (1).

Seven Wilmington hitters gained a hit in the win and they were Melendez (1), Pratto (1), Matias (1), Carrasco (2), Hicklen (1) and Perez (2).

Dennicher Carrasco hit a home run in the 6-1 win against the Keys.

The Blue Rocks were four for five with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.

On the pitching side, Brady Singer was flat out dominant as he went six innings, six hits, 10 strikeouts and earned the win (fourth win of the season).

Josh Mitchell would come in to the game to relieve Singer which he went two innings, one hit, one  run, two walks and two strikeouts.

Robert Garcia would close out the game for the Rocks as he went one inning, one walk and one strikeout.

Rocks Score A Combined Six Runs In Second & Third Innings

In the last couple games, it took a while to see some action from the two teams lineups but not in this game.

The Rocks would provide the runs in this game as the team would start the scoring in the second inning.

The first run of the inning came from Brewer Hicklen who hit a triple to right field which scored Dennicher Carrasco to give Rocks a 1-0 lead.

The second run of the inning came from Cristian Perez who hit a single to center field which scored Hicklen to extend Rocks lead to 2-0.

The Rocks would continue to add to their lead in the third inning when the team would score four more runs.

The first run in the bottom of the fourth inning came from Nick Pratto who hit a two out line drive double to center field which scored MJ Melendez to give Rocks a 3-0 lead.

After Melendez’s score there was a little drama from the Keys side as their pitcher DL Hall was ejected and their manager Ryan Minor was also ejected from the game.

The Keys drama did not stop the Rocks momentum as the scoring continued, as Seuly Matias would hit a two out double to left field to score Pratto to give their team a 4-0 lead.

The next batter up would be Dennicher Carrasco which he would hit a two out, two run home run to extend Rocks lead to 6-0.

Keys Score In the Seventh Inning But Rocks Pitching Seals The Win

Rocks starter Brady Singer would leave after six innings but he was dealing in this outing, as he went six innings, six hits, 10 strikeouts and earned the win.

Josh Mitchell would come in to the game to relieve Singer which he went two innings, one hit, one  run, two walks and two strikeouts.

The one run that Mitchell gave up in the seventh inning was to Austin Hays who hit into a sacrifice fly which allowed Yeltsin Gudino to score to decrease the Rocks lead to 6-1.

The Rocks pitching staff would not let the Keys get any momentum from the run as the team shut the lineup down for the rest of the game.

Robert Garcia closed the game out for the Rocks which he went one inning, one walk and one strikeout to seal a 6-1 win.

Rocks go on the road to start a series with the Potomac Nationals on May 17th at 7:05pm ET.
