Castellano’s Big Double In The 6th Leads Rocks To 7-2 Victory Over Astros

The Wilmington Blue Rocks are ending their home stand with taking the series over the Buies Creek Astros which is thanks to a 7-2 win over the Astros on Sunday at Frawley Stadium.

The star of the game on the offensive side for the Rocks was shortstop Angelo Castellano who had one hit,three RBIs and one strikeout in the win.

Another offensive standout in the game for the Rocks was DH Blake Perkins who had two runs and three walks.

On the pitching side for the Rocks, starting pitcher Nolan Watson pitched a solid game in the series win going five innings, five hits, two runs, two earned runs, two walks, four strikeouts and earned his fifth win of the year.

Astros Strike First

The Astros did not waste anytime to put their first run on the board as their left fielder J.J. Matijevic singled on a line drive to center field to score center fielder Jacob Meyers to give Buies Creek a 1-0 lead in the first.

The Rocks answered back in the bottom of the first inning with scoring two runs of their own.

The first run for the Rocks came from third baseman Emmanuel Rivera who singled on a ground ball to second base which scored DH Blake Perkins to tie the game at one.

The second run in the inning came from catcher Meibrys Viloria who singled on a line drive to left field to score Rivera to give Rocks a 2-1 lead.

Astros Matijevic Strikes Again

Astros tied the game up in the top of the third with left fielder J.J. Matijevic batting in his second run of the day with a line drive single to center field which scored DH Corey Julks.

The Rocks again answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning to give them a 4-2 lead.

The first run of inning for the Rocks came from right fielder  Brewer Hicklen who doubled to right field to score Perkins which gave Rocks a 3-2 lead.

The second run of the third inning for the Rocks came from second baseman Gabriel Cancel who hit into a sacrifice fly which scored Hicklen to give Rocks a 4-2 lead.

Rocks starting pitcher Nolan Watson left the game in the fifth inning and left with  five hits, two runs, two earned runs, two walks, four strikeouts and earned his fifth win of the year.

 

Rocks Castellano’s Three Run Double 

In the sixth inning, Rocks would score three more runs to give them a comfortable lead in the game for the first time.

The three runs came from shortstop Angelo Castellano who hit a line drive double to center field which scored Viloria, left fielder Vance Vizcaino and right fielder Rudy Martin to give Rocks a 7-2 lead.

 

Rocks Relief Pitching Shuts Down Astros

The Astros lineup were shut down by the Rocks relief pitchers who all dominated the innings they pitched.

Anthony Bender came in for Rocks starter Watson and he pitched two innings, one hit, one walk, one strikeout and earned his third hold of the year.

Then it was Josh Mitchell’s turn in the eighth and he went one inning, one walk and one strikeout.

To close out the game, Julio Pinto came in for the Rocks and pitched one inning and one hit.

Rocks hit the road starting Tuesday to start a series with  Buies Creek Astros at their home. First pitch is at 6:00 pm ET.
