The Delaware 87ers announced Tuesday, they have acquired the rights of forward Shane Edwards.
Edwards played collegiately at University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he earned All-Sun Belt and first-team NABC All-District selection. The future Sevens player averaged 9 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist and 1 block in 23 minutes per game.
Then the 6ft 7 forward declared for the draft in 2009, unfortunately Edwards would go undrafted but he did get picked by NBA D- League Albuquerque Thunderbirds ( now the Canton Charge) a couple months later.
Edwards played for the D-league’s Canton Charge for 4 seasons (2009-11,2011-12 and 2013-14) where he earned numerous accolades, including NBA D-League All-Star (2011), All D-League Honorable Mention (2011) and D-League performer of week in December of 2010.
The Los Angeles native played in 136 games with the Charge and averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block in 29 minutes per game.
While with the Charge, Edwards got called up to the Cleveland Cavaliers in March of 2014 and played in two games.
Edwards has played with several international teams over the years including Tezenis Verona of the Italian Legadue Basket, Australia’s Cairns Taipans, Sundsvall Dragons in Sweden, Alaska Aces of the Philippine Basketball Association,the Filipino PBA and BG Goettingen of the German BBL
