Thursday night was a hot and steamy night in Wilmington and the same could be said about the Rocks win on the night.
Blue Rocks had everything going on Thursday from their offense to their pitching, Rocks were hot all night long in the 7-0 win vs Keys.
First the offense, Rocks started the scoring with a single by DH Robert Pehl that scored catcher Chad Johnson to put the Blue Rocks up 2-0 in the fourth inning. The RBI was Pehl’s 23rd of the year.
Then in the 8th inning catcher Chad Johnson did a little scoring of his own when he hit a 2-run homer to help increase the lead to 7-0. With two RBIs on the night that brings Johnson’s season total to 19 RBIs .
Also, Samir Duenez had an RBI in tonight’s game which brings his season total to 34 RBIs.
Third baseman Mike Hill also scored in the Thursday’s game which brings his RBIs total to 2.
Rocks were 3 for 8 with runners in scoring position and left 6 men on base in Thursday’s game.
Blue Rocks pitching was also hot on Thursday night with the starting pitcher Foster Griffin going six innings, six hits allowed, no earned runs, and had three strikeouts on the night.
After Griffin exited, the bullpen did their job and only gave up four hits to help the Rocks record their fourth shutout of the year.
Blue Rocks win the series after taking 3 out 4 from the Keys and go on the road to start a three game series with Salem.
