The Wilmington Blue Rocks opened the 2024 season on Friday with a 4-1 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones.
Game Recap:
Blue Rocks lead by one run at the end of the first inning.
Wilmington would get on the scoreboard first in this game when infielder Murphy Stehly pushed in a run with a sac fly to give his team a 1-0 lead.
The Blue Rocks started the inning with a single, and two batters earned a walk.
Wilmington takes a two-run lead after the second inning.
The Rocks would extend their lead in the bottom of the second inning when the team scored one run on two hits to take a 2-0 edge.
Outfielder Jared McKenzie would get the first hit of the inning when he slapped a single to second base.
Two batters later, outfielder Daylen Lile stepped up to the plate and smacked a triple to right field to give his team a 2-0 advantage.
The Blue Rocks take a four-lead at the end of the fourth inning.
Wilmington would continue to widen their lead as catcher Maxwell Romero Jr. knocked a two-run homer to right field to take the score to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Wilmington takes home a 4-1 win!
Brooklyn would not score their first run of the game until the top of the seventh inning, which cut the deficit to 4-1. That would be the only run for the Cyclones, as the Blue Rocks would take home a 4-1 victory.
Pitching Recap:
Starting pitcher Andry Lara went five innings, gave up four hits and two walks, struck out six batters, and earned the win.
The bullpen consisted of three relievers, who combined to give up two hits and one run, one earned run, five walks, and struck out four batters.
Pitcher Todd Peterson closed out the game, as he went one inning, gave up one hit, and one walk, struck out one batter, and earned the save.
