The Wilmington Blue Rocks were rained out on Thursday which meant on Friday brought a doubleheader against the Salem Red Sox at Frawley Stadium. The Rocks split the doubleheader as the team won the first game 2-1 and lost the second game 1-0.
Let’s focus on the game the Rocks won which was the first game of the double header.

The RBIs in the game came from DH MJ Melendez (2).
Two Blue Rocks players had runs in the win and they were pinch runner Rudy Martin (1) and Melendez (1).
Two Wilmington hitters gained a hit in the win and they were right fielder Blake Perkins (1) and Melendez (1).
The Wilmington Blue Rocks were one for two with runners in scoring position and left one man on base.
MJ Melendez hit a two-run home run in the 2-1 win against the Red Sox.
On the pitching side, Rocks starter Kris Bubic had Salem’s hitters confused all night as he went seven innings, two hits,one walk and ten strikeouts.
Josh Dye would come into the game to relieve Bubic, as he went one inning, two hits,one run, two strikeouts and earned the win ( third win of the season).
Pitchers Kept Game Silent Till Last Inning
Fans of a pitching duel would of loved this game because for seven innings, neither team’s lineup could figure out the opposing pitcher.
This game was the first of two games which was supposed to be six innings but the pitchers had other plans and it went two extra innings to the eighth.

Rocks starting pitcher Kris Bubic would leave in the top of the eighth inning but the young man had quite the day. Bubic went seven innings, two hits,one walk and ten strikeouts.

The one run Dye gave up would be to Salem’s Edgar Corcino who singled on a fly ball to center field which scored Marcus Wilson to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead in the top of the eighth inning.

The Rocks would answer right back in the bottom of the eighth inning as DH MJ Melendez would hit a two-run walk off home run in extra innings to snag a 2-1 game one victory for his team.
The Rocks stay at home as the team opens up a new series with the Carolina Mudcats on July 13th at 6:05 pm ET.
