Rocks Take Series With 7-4 Win Over Red Sox

The Wilmington Blue Rocks won their third straight series as the team defeated the Salem Red Sox 7-4 on Thursday at  Haley Toyota Field.

Blue Rocks Claim Another Series

The RBIs in the game came from right fielder Blake Perkins (2),left fielder Colby Schultz (2), first baseman Nick Pratto (2) and third baseman Dennicher Carrasco (1).

Five Blue Rocks players had runs in the win and they were Perkins (2),Schultz (1), Carrasco (1),  second baseman Ricky Aracena (2) and center fielder Rudy Martin (1).

Seven Wilmington hitters gained a hit in the win and they were Perkins (2),Schultz (3), Pratto (1),Carrasco (1), catcher MJ Melendez (1)  and Martin (1).

Dennicher Carrasco (1) and Blake Perkins (1) each hit a home run in the 7-4 win.

Rudy Martin recorded a stolen base in the win over the Red Sox.

The Blue Rocks were four for 15 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.

On the pitching side, Rocks starter Marcelo Martinez had some bumps but turned in a solid outing, as he went five innings, eight hits,two runs, two earned runs,three walks, four strikeouts and earned the win ( third of the season).

Josh Mitchell came into the game to relieve Martinez, as he went 1.2 innings,three hits, one run,one earned run, one strikeout and earned the hold (second of the season).

Collin Snider closed out the game as he went 2.1 innings,one hit, one run, one walk, one strikeout and earned the save ( first of the season).

Salem Strikes First in First Inning

It did not take long for a run to hit the board in this game as Salem scored one in the bottom of the first inning.

The Red Sox’s run in the first inning came from Ryan Fitzgerald who would hit a line drive triple to center field which scored Jarren Duran to give their team a 1-0 lead.

Rocks Score Two Runs In Third & Fourth Innings

It took two innings but the Rocks hitters finally put a run on the board in the top of third inning.

The Rocks run came from Colby Schultz who would hit a two out line drive single to left field which scored Ricky Aracena to tie the game up at one.

Salem would answer back in the bottom of third inning with a run of their own which again came from Ryan Fitzgerald who would hit a line drive single to left field to score Jarren Duran to give their team a 2-1 lead.

The Rocks would answer back in the top of the fourth inning, as Dennicher Carrasco would lead the inning off with a solo home run to tie the game up at two.

Rocks Score Three Runs In Fifth & Sixth Innings

In the top of the fifth inning, Rocks offense continued to have their foot on the pedal as the team scored two more runs to take their first lead of the game.

Wilmington’s two runs came from Nick Pratto who would hit a line drive double to left field which would score Blake Perkins and Colby Schultz to give their team a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

The Blue Rocks would continue to add to their lead in the sixth inning, when Colby Schultz would hit a two out ground ball single to center field which scored Rudy Martin to extend their team’s lead to 5-2.

After five innings, Rocks starting pitcher Marcelo Martinez would exit with a solid outing, as he went five innings, eight hits,two runs, two earned runs,three walks, four strikeouts and earned the win.

Salem Scores One Run In The Seventh Inning

Rocks Josh Mitchell came into the game to relieve Martinez and in the sixth inning everything went smoothly, the seventh inning was a different story.

Mitchell would give up a run to Salem’s run machine of this game Ryan Fitzgerald, who would hit a line drive single to left field to score Jarren Duran to decrease Rocks lead to 5-3.

Mitchell would leave the game after seeing four batters in the inning which his ending stats were 1.2 innings,three hits, one run,one earned run, one strikeout and earned the hold.

Rocks Add Two More Runs To Their Lead In Eighth Inning

Wilmington would add two more runs to their lead in the eighth inning to give themselves some breathing room from Salem.

The two runs came from one swing of a bat as Blake Perkins would hit a two run home run to left field to give the Rocks a 7-3 lead.

Salem Scores One In Ninth But Rocks Close Out The Win

Collin Snider took over for Josh Mitchell in the seventh inning which the Rocks pitcher was cruising and in the eighth as well. The ninth inning is when things got a little dicey for Snider.

Snider gave up one run in the ninth to Pedro Castellanos who grounded out which allowed Victor Acosta to score to decrease Rocks lead to 7-4. The Rocks closer would calm down and get the last out on a ground out to seal the 7-4 win.

Snider’s stats for the inning was he went 2.1 innings,one hit, one run, one walk, one strikeout and earned the save.

The Blue Rocks start a four game home series with Myrtle Beach Pelicans on May 24th at 7:05 pm ET.
