On a day where there were so many highs that included the Education Day game, Sevens setting a new attendance record with 4,104 fans and giving over 3,000 kids books at Tuesday’s game but there was also a low. During the game the Sevens were dealt a huge blow when Dionte Christmas went down with an injury and had to exit the game.

Christmas suffered a right Achilles tendon rupture during the game vs the Northern Arizona Suns, according to Sevens General Manager Brandon Williams.

“After consultation with our team physician, Dr. Joseph Mesa, it was determined that Dionte Christmas suffered a right Achilles tendon rupture during today’s game against the Northern Arizona Suns and will miss the remainder of the season. He will be scheduled for surgery at Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists in the coming days.

“On behalf of the Sevens organization, I sincerely thank Dionte for his tremendous contributions to our team this season. He has been a consummate professional, positive influence on the development of our young roster, and vital to our energy and drive. We will certainly miss his leadership on the court, but are inspired by his confidence as he attacks the next steps on the road to recovery.”

The Temple Owl standout was going to take his talents overseas this year but the Philadelphia 76ers reached out to him and signed him before training camp ended.

For Christmas it meant everything to play where it all started.

“Anytime I get a chance to come and represent for Philadelphia and get a chance to play with these guys, play in my city, I’m always going to take that shot,” Christmas after signing with the Sixers. “This is me taking a chance at my dream and trying to stick in the league.”

Christmas averaged 15.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists with the Sevens this season.
