Blue Rocks Win Streak Ends As They lose to Lynchburg

The Wilmington Blue Rocks win streak ends at six games as the Rocks could not bring the momentum on the road against the Lynchburg Hillcats as the Rocks lost 8-4 in the series opener on Tuesday night.

One of the biggest factors in their win streak was great pitching, well tonight the pitching had rough outing against Lynchburg.

It all started when Rocks starting pitcher Foster Griffin gave up three runs in the first inning including a two run home run and could not stop the bleeding giving up combined two runs in the second and the third innings.

Griffin’s final stat line was he pitched 3.1 innings, surrendered 10 hits, gave up 5 runs, 4 earned runs, 1 walk, gave up 2 home runs and struck out 1.

The bullpen was not any better giving up 3 runs, 6 hits, struck out 7 batters and gave up 2 home runs in 5 innings of work.

From the offensive side of the Rocks, they had some fire power but the Rocks bats could not match the juice in the Hillcats offense.

The Blue Rocks had a couple of players hit home runs in Tuesday’s loss vs Lynchburg and they were DH Brandon Downes and catcher Luis Villegas.

Downes hit his home run in the 3rd inning to inch the Rocks closer to the Hillcats to a 4-2 score at the time.

Villegas hit his home run in the 6th inning adding one more run to Blue Rocks score.

Also, Rocks had RBIs from right fielder Elier Hernandez and third baseman Mike Hill.

Downes now has 12 home runs on the year and 63 RBIs on the season.

Villegas now has 3 home runs on the year and 20 RBIs on the season.

Hernandez now has season total of 41 RBIs.

Hill has a season total of 8 RBIs.

The Rocks were 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position and left 7 men on base during Tuesday’s loss.

Rocks look to even the series tomorrow at Lynchburg.
