The Wilmington Blue Rocks put the breaks on a two game losing streak on Friday, as the team defeated the Frederick Keys 6-1 at Nymeo Field.
The RBIs in the game came from catcher MJ Melendez (2) and first baseman Nick Pratto (1) .
Six Blue Rocks players had runs in the win and they were DH Michael Gigliotti (1), center fielder Blake Perkins (1), left fielder Brewer Hicklen (1), Melendez (1), left fielder Colby Schultz (1) and third baseman Offerman Collado (1).
Five Wilmington hitters gained a hit in the win and they were Gigliotti (1),Perkins (1),Melendez (3), Pratto (1) and Collado (1).
The Wilmington Blue Rocks were two for five with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
MJ Melendez was quite the speedster on the bases in this game as he stole two bases in the win.
On the pitching side, Rocks starter Jonathan Bowlan scattered some hits but overall the young pitcher shined in his second start with the team. Bowlan went six innings, seven hits,one run, one earned run,seven strikeouts and earned the win ( second win of the season).
Holden Capps came in for Bowlan as he continued the dominance on the mound, as he went two innings,two hits,one strikeout and earned the hold ( eighth hold of the season).
Austin Lambright would be the last man up for the Rocks pitching staff for the night, as he went one inning and one strikeout.
Keys Strike First To Take Early Lead
It was the Frederick Keys who would strike first in the game as the team would score a run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
The Keys run in the bottom of the second inning came from Kirvin Moesquit who hit a ground ball single to right field which scored Ryan Ripken to give their team a 1-0 lead.
Rocks Tie Game Up In Fourth Inning
Wilmington would get a run on a board in the fourth inning from MJ Melendez’s speed and a Keys mistake.
The Rocks run in the fourth inning came when Melendez was stealing second base which caused Keys Jean Carrillo to have a throwing error and setup Brewer Hicklen to score. Hicklen’s run would tie the game up at one.
Rocks Score Two In Sixth Inning
The Rocks were ready to take over this game as the team scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
The first run came from a error from Keys pitcher Luis Perez who threw a wild pitch which scored Michael Gigliotti to give the Rocks a 2-1 lead.
The next run of the inning came from MJ Melendez who would hit a sharp line drive single to right field which scored Blake Perkins to extend Rocks lead to 3-1.
Rocks Add Three More Runs In Eighth & Ninth Innings To Cement Win
In the top of the seventh inning, Rocks starter Jonathan Bowlan would exit the game but he had the Keys hitters number all day as he went six innings, seven hits,one run, one earned run,seven strikeouts and earned the win.
Holden Capps came in for Bowlan as he continued the dominance on the mound, as he went two innings,two hits,one strikeout and earned the hold.
The Rocks would add another run to their lead in the eighth inning as Nick Pratto would hit a line drive single to center field which scored MJ Melendez to give their team a 4-1 lead.
Wilmington would cement their lead in the ninth as the team added two more runs to take a 6-1 lead in the game.
The first run in the inning came when Keys Jean Carrillo had a passed ball which allowed Rocks Colby Schultz to score to extend his team’s lead to 5-1.
The last run of the game came from MJ Melendez who would get walked which allowed Offerman Collado to score to give the Rocks a 6-1 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, it was all up to Austin Lambright who went through all three batters with ease as he closed the door on the Rocks 6-1 win.
Rocks continue the series with Keys tomorrow at Nymeo Field at 6:00pm ET.
